British Sign Language (BSL) is the sign language used in the uk, and is the first or preferred language of some deaf people in the UK; there are 125,000 deaf adults in the UK who use BSL plus an estimated 20,000 children. The language makes use of space and involves movement of the hands, body, face and head. Many thousands of people who are not deaf also use BSL, as hearing relatives of deaf people, sign language interpreters or as a result of other contact with the British deaf community.
In the first section, you get an introduction to BSL, including the roots of the language, and some common misconceptions and commonly asked questions
The other sections then go on to supply you with hand shapes/facial expressions for such things as introducing yourself and first time conversations, eating and rinking, basic questions, friends and family, letters of the alphabet, days of the week, months, numbers, money, telling the time, and much much more!
Also demonstated is the importance of facial expressions in that how the hand shape is the same, but is translated differently because of the facial expression - In the same token, it is also demonstrated how the same hand shape can mean different things just by the way the hand is also moved
Also, it is demonstrated how the grammatical structure of BSL differs from spoken english, and how sometimes just one hand sign can be tranlated into a full english sentence!
